Generative Design –
NFT Satire Through Ecology

In this studio, we explore the intriguing world of Generative Design. The brief challenged us to tackle socially relevant topics and create a series of nine posters, guided by a structured set of constraints and rules. As described by Galanter (n.d.), "Generative art refers to any art practice where the artist uses a system—natural language rules, a computer program, a machine, or other procedural invention—which is set into motion with some degree of autonomy contributing to or resulting in a completed work of art."

My work, a direct satire of the NFT phenomenon, pushes a critical dialogue forward by crafting ecological elements that mimic the aesthetics of NFTs. Employing a low-poly style, I sought to emphasize the essence of an NFT—its pixelated foundation.

The posters strike a humorous yet thought-provoking tone, juxtaposing elements of the natural world with the pixelated essence of NFTs. Experimentation played a key role throughout the process as I modeled various ecological elements, ultimately selecting those that communicated the message most effectively.

Drawing from Complexity Theory and Generative Art (Galanter, n.d.), I learned how individual components interact within a system to create a cohesive whole. My goal was to achieve "effective complexity," balancing order and chaos. Through structured constraints and an openness to randomness, I introduced unexpected elements that kept the designs dynamic and engaging.

This generative design series not only highlights the absurdity of NFTs but also invites viewers to reflect on the intersection of technology and nature in a visually compelling way.
